In a society saturated with visual content, where abundance ultimately leads to a form of exhaustion, the artist seeks to restore meaning to the images that emerge, imbued with symbolism. Fascinated by the potential of the ‘image-trace’, Mercedes has travelled across the region in search of evocative representations, forging links between archaeology, spirituality and environmental factors.

Spanning drawing, photography, installation and light-based works, she creates pieces that explore the boundary between the visible and the invisible, between absence and presence. *Temps du rêve* invites us to reframe our perspective and prompts reflection on the human need to create symbolic images, in an eternal quest for meaning, tracing back to the very origins of the image and magical thinking.

This residency programme is organised in partnership with the Frac-Grand Large and the art schools of Calais, Boulogne-sur-Mer, Denain and Lille, and receives support from the Hauts-de-France Regional Directorate for Cultural Affairs (DRAC) and the Pas-de-Calais department.
