Whether you’re visiting on your own or with others, you’ll meet our visitor engagement officers during your visit to the Frac, who will be on hand to assist you, answer your questions, strike up a conversation and discuss your impressions.

Admission to the Frac Grand Large is free for everyone on the first Sunday of every month.

EXPLORE AT YOUR OWN PACE

We provide a range of visitor guides to help you explore our exhibitions. You will find these within the exhibition spaces. Translations into Dutch and English are available on request at reception.

Museum guides are also on hand in the exhibition galleries to provide you with information, answer your questions and assist you. 

A number of complementary mediation tools are available free of charge:  

  • – Maxi Musette, a sensory bag that invites visitors to explore the exhibition in an immersive, sensory, playful and active way, through touch, observation and imagination.   
  • – Musical cartels by Benjamin Mialot, programme director at Les 4Écluses.
  • – Sensory bags designed for people with special needs.
  • -TOUSCHSCAPE UNFOLDED: landscapes made of portable materials that unfold and invite children to rest and enjoy sensory experiences, designed by set designer Leia Walz to help very young children explore the building.

These tools are available free of charge on request from reception or are freely accessible.

EXPLORE IN A DIFFERENT WAY

> AUDIO WALK: ‘THE SOUND OF THE DUNES’

Created by the artist Rainier Lericolais, the audio walk *Le son des dunes* evokes the history of the Grand Large neighbourhood in Dunkirk, formerly the Chantier Naval de France shipyard. This work also recalls a unique event in Dunkirk’s history: on 25 June 1658, during the Battle of the Dunes, Dunkirk was under Spanish control in the morning, French control at midday and English control by evening. Take your pupils on this self-guided walking tour between the Frac and the LAAC. An educational pack is available on the Frac’s website. This document
offers examples of artistic activities based on the common core
of knowledge, skills and culture across all subject areas.

The walking and audio trail *The Sound of the Dunes* by artist Rainer Lericolais serves to link the Frac Grand Large with its neighbour, the Lieu d’Art et Action Contemporaine (LAAC).
