Frac Grand Large — Hauts-de-France

Third Floor of the Frac

The year 2024 marks a turning point in the programming of the Frac Grand Large. The collection unfolds throughout the building in a selection drawn from more than 2,000 works of contemporary art and design. The works emerge from storage in thematic groupings, inviting different perspectives — from members of the acquisitions committee, from community partners, and from the public. On the third floor, the space is permanently dedicated to these perspectives, whether expert, amateur, committed, or poetic.

Extreme Collection is presented in two parts:

The Frac’s collection is full of artistic gems from our German neighbors, created between the 1960s and today. Artists and designers have developed forms that are part of a global art history, engaging with political, economic, and technological history alike. Reflecting acquisitions made over the past 40 years, this display highlights how artists relate to history and societal upheavals: how did the artists of their time confront these realities? And how do we look at their works today?

To accompany the exhibition, Benjamin Mialot, programmer at Les 4Écluses, has created a playlist designed as a soundtrack.
